Chandigarh's Metro: Punjab and Haryana to collaborate on DPR

A meeting took place with the aim of discussing the necessary steps to prepare a Comprehensive Mobility Plan for the Tri-City. The meeting was chaired by UT adviser Dharam Pal, indicating the significance of the discussions. During the course of the meeting, the esteemed team from RITES presented a comprehensive overview of the policies, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to the planning of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). It is worth noting that these plans align with the Metro Rail Policy issued by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

Providing further details, it has been disclosed that approximately two weeks after obtaining the green signal from the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs, the UT administration has taken a decision of great importance. In their proactive approach, they have decided to involve all key stakeholders, which notably includes Punjab and Haryana, in the meticulous preparation of both the Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Metro Rail project. This crucial step is in complete accordance with the government guidelines established by the Government of India.

The significance of this decision lies in the fact that it aims to foster a collaborative effort among all relevant parties involved in the project. By engaging Punjab and Haryana, the UT administration is ensuring that the comprehensive reports being prepared adhere to the standards and expectations set forth by the Government of India. This approach emphasises the importance of transparency, cooperation, and the collective endeavour to establish an efficient and sustainable Metro Rail system for the Tri-City.
