Urgent call: Land acquisition for Chorao-Salvador do Mundo Bridge, Goa
2023-07-25

The North Goa collectorate has received an urgent request to expedite the land acquisition process for the proposed Chorao-Salvador do Mundo bridge. Recently, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and Mayem MLA Premendra Shet held a meeting to address the matter concerning the bridge.
During the meeting, it was agreed upon that once the land transfer process is completed, the tender for the bridge will be floated promptly. Additionally, efforts will be made to speed up the sale deed and land transfer procedures required for the construction.
To ensure the smooth implementation of the project, the landowners will be duly compensated before commencing work on road widening and approach stretches. The plan includes widening the narrow internal roads in the concerned areas, including those leading to the bridge.
The bridge itself will have a length of approximately 200 meters and will be developed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs 2.50 billion. As a step towards initiating the tender process without delay, the government has already deposited Rs 125 million with the Economic Development Corporation, designated for payment to the landowners.
In attendance at the meeting were North Goa collector Mamu Hage, senior BJP functionary Premanand Mhambrey, deputy collectors, land acquisition officials, and other relevant personnel.
