Bhupesh Baghel lays foundation for 1,320 MW power plant

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel laid the foundation stone of two units of a 660 megawatt supercritical thermal power plant in Korba district, valued at Rs 129.15 billion.

During the occasion, Baghel announced that the power plant would be named after former Rajiv Gandhi, Prime Minister. He mentioned that Korba holds a significant position as a power capital in the state, with its power generation activities initiated by Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1957. Baghel also stated that the state has received approvals for the environmental and coal-related processes, which are currently progressing. The anticipated commissioning of the plant is set for 2028.

Chief Minister Baghel proudly shared that the state has the highest per capita electricity consumption in the country. Furthermore, they provide electricity up to 400 units at half the rate to 42 lakh families. Additionally, the state grants subsidies amounting to Rs 123.57 billion to support farmers.

Baghel revealed the government's commitment to promoting solar energy and continuously improving the power system. To facilitate this, they have introduced the 'Mor Bijli' app, allowing citizens to pay bills and register complaints about power cuts and repairs.

At present, the total generation capacity of Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited stands at 2978.7 MW. It's noteworthy that when Chhattisgarh was founded, the production capacity was only 1360 MW, and now the state is recognized as a zero power cut state.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the newly established 1320 MW supercritical thermal power station will be the most substantial and modern plant in the state. He believes this will not only make the state self-sufficient in power generation but also create numerous new employment opportunities.
