Tiruppur MP urges NHAI to construct underpasses and flyovers on NH 544

Tiruppur MP K Subbarayan recently met with the chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Santosh Kumar Yadav, in New Delhi. During the meeting, he emphasised the urgency of initiating construction on two vehicular underpasses (VUPs) along the Chengapalli – Bhavani stretch of the Salem – Kochi National Highway 544.

The MP brought to the chairman's attention that the NHAI had already granted in-principle approval for the construction of six-lane VUPs at Kanjikovil road and Thudupathi road, along with service roads, at an estimated cost of Rs 660.1 million. However, he expressed concern that no progress had been made in the past six months. Without these VUPs in place, motorists continue to face significant risks, leading to frequent accidents and loss of lives.

MP Subbarayan urged the NHAI chairman to expedite the commencement of construction without any further delays and ensure timely completion of the projects. Additionally, he requested the sanctioning of flyovers and service roads along the same stretch, a proposal that had been submitted earlier.

The development of these VUPs, flyovers, and service roads is crucial to improve safety and ease traffic flow in the region. The MP's call for prompt action reflects the pressing need to address the ongoing risks and challenges faced by commuters on the Chengapalli – Bhavani section of National Highway 544.
