EV policy subsidy continues until new notification in Delhi

Kailash Gahlot, Delhi Transport Minister, announced that the subsidy benefits provided by the existing Electric Vehicle Policy would continue until a new policy was notified.

The Electric Vehicle Policy of Delhi, which was introduced in August 2020, aimed to raise the proportion of electric vehicles in the total vehicle sales to 25% by 2024. According to official data, more than 1.12 lakh electric vehicles had been sold under the policy.

It was stated by Gahlot that "Today, we complete three years of Delhi's landmark EV policy that has propelled Delhi to becoming India's electric vehicle capital."

As the formulation of a new electric vehicle policy was still under process, Gahlot mentioned in a tweet that the subsidy benefits of the existing policy would persist until the new policy was notified.

As of May, around 86% of the measures and targets of Delhi's electric vehicle policy had been achieved, as stated by the transport department.

In May, a stakeholder consultation was conducted by the transport department and Delhi Electric Vehicle Cell as a part of the process of drafting a revised 'Delhi EV Policy 2.0'.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated in June of this year that Delhi had become the nation's electric vehicle capital with the highest number of such vehicles being purchased in the city.
