Uttarakhand Extends Solar tariff for MSSY projects
2023-08-18
Uttarakhand continues generic solar tariff for Mukhyamantri Saur Swarojgar Yojna (MSSY) projects
The Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) has decided to extend the current generic tariff of Rs 4.64 (~$0.55)/kWh for solar projects under the Mukhyamantri Saur Swarojgar Yojna (MSSY) for the fiscal year 2023-24. This tariff will remain in effect for three years, concluding on March 31, 2026. The MSSY program was initiated with the aim of allocating 10,000 small solar power projects, each with capacities of 20/25 kW. As of March 2023, a total of 150 such projects, cumulatively amounting to around 3.5 MW, have been successfully commissioned. The primary objective of the MSSY initiative is to foster self-employment through solar farming, thereby addressing the resource constraints faced by local residents and farmers. This program empowers small-scale farmers to set up solar power installations on unused or barren lands, subsequently allowing them to sell the generated electricity to the Uttarakhand Power Corporation (UPCL).
