LeeBoy introduces 8608 smooth ride paver with slim conveyor
LeeBoy stated that its most popular paver, the 8520C, had undergone improvements to provide a smoother ride and increased ease of maintenance in its new model, the 8608.The intention of the company is to retain the 8520 in its product lineup. The introduction of the 8608 was driven by the desires of customers who sought a commercial paver with a more robust track and reduced maintenance. Brian Hall, an asphalt training specialist at LeeBoy, mentioned at ConExpo 2023 that the 8608 was developed as a response to these customer requests.
In the process of upgrading the paver, LeeBoy strengthened the undercarriage and integrated an Oscillating Bogie Style Track System, delivering a ground contact area of 72 inches. Hall elaborated that this feature was particularly significant for commercial users who often operated on various surfaces such as sand, dirt, and aggregate. The wider stance facilitated by this system helped maintain lower psi values.
LeeBoy highlighted that the design of the paver was intended for demanding commercial paving tasks and extensive volume projects. The incorporation of oscillating bogies enabled the tractor to navigate obstacles more smoothly, which in turn enhanced the operation of the screed, resulting in improved mat quality.
The track system employed in the 8608 resembled that of the larger 8616 paver but in a more compact form, featuring greater spacing to accommodate obstacles such as utilities.
Additionally, the 8608 paver received a narrower conveyor compared to the 8520, a modification aimed at simplifying maintenance tasks. The conveyor was equipped with heavy-duty chains similar to those used in highway class pavers.
