Shirdi Steel and Rollers greenlit for Goa steel unit expansion

Shirdi Steel and  Rollers has received a significant nod from the Goa State Expert Appraisal Committee (Goa-SEAC) for the expansion of its steel unit within the Cuncolim industrial estate. The company's ambition to elevate production capacity from one lakh tonnes per annum (tpa) to 1.5 lakh tonnes per annum (tpa) is now poised for realisation.

Occupying two plots within the Cuncolim industrial estate, the steel unit's expansion plan encompasses 9,000 square metres. area adjacent to the existing location. The Goa-SEAC's endorsement specifies that this expansion area remains well within the boundaries of the industrial estate.

The expert committee has directed the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (GSEIAA) to furnish terms of reference (ToR) to Shirdi Steel and  Rollers, thereby initiating the process to secure environmental clearance (EC) for the forthcoming expansion endeavour.

In adherence to the issued notification on July 20, 2022, the re-rolling unit (secondary metallurgical processing industry) is required to secure prior clearance within a year from the notification's issuance date. This regulatory impetus underscores the commitment to ensuring sustainable and environmentally conscious growth in the steel sector.
