RailTel Targets £4-5B Revenue: Kavach Projects, OEMs
RailTel Corporation of India, a major ICT provider and neutral telecom infrastructure provider, plans to engage in the upcoming Kavach projects initiated by Indian Railways. Kavach is an automatic train protection system developed by Indian Railways. The company anticipates revenue of ₹4,000-5,000 crore from the railway projects, out of an estimated total project size of ₹30,000 crore for LTE and Kavach implementation over the next five years. RailTel is pursuing partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to strengthen its position in the sector. Some OEMs have already been approved by the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO), and RailTel is also approaching other manufacturers.RailTel aims to participate in both hardware and software aspects of the Kavach projects, emphasizing connectivity and application rollout. The company focuses on upcoming projects and plans to avoid those that have already been initiated. Kavach has been deployed on certain railway routes, and further tenders and work are in progress for expansion. RailTel also expresses interest in diversifying into education, MSME, and smart cities sectors, while expanding its IT solutions. The establishment of IP-based video surveillance systems at railway stations and the expansion of data centers across the country remain part of RailTel's strategic objectives.
