Jharkhand approves DPR for Jamshedpur-NH 33 bypass

The Engineer-in-chief (EIC) of the Jharkhand road construction department, KK Lal, instructed the department’s Central Design Organisation (CDO) to create a detailed project report (DPR) for the second Jamshedpur-NH 33 bypass.

It was conveyed that, EIC KK Lal had given instructions to the CDO to formulate a DPR and a design for the 4.500 km road and bridge spanning the Subarnarekha River, which would establish a direct connection between the eastern part of the city and National Highway 33. Saryu Roy, the Jamshedpur (East) MLA, mentioned that this ambitious and commuter-friendly initiative aimed to ease the substantial traffic congestion on Mango Bridge by redirecting commercial and passenger traffic from the city's eastern sector to NH 33.

Mango Bridge encountered a considerable surge in traffic lasting for more than three hours, during which even ambulances found themselves trapped within the lengthy vehicle queues. The police subsequently managed to disperse the congestion after making significant efforts.

Roy further added, "I presented the design to the EIC and chief engineer Rakesh Kumar Srivastava, along with executive engineer Deepak Sahay and assistant engineer Bam Prasad. The design was granted technical approval with a tentative cost estimate of ₹233 crore in 2019. Nonetheless, I expressed my dissatisfaction by stating that this estimate is unfeasible and cannot be accepted."

Roy participated in a high-level meeting with officials from the road construction department at his office in the state assembly.

As per his account, cf cv fLal mentioned that a survey for the road stretch from Litti Chowk in the Agrico area to NH 33, as well as for the bridge over the Subarnarekha River, was conducted in November 2022 in accordance with the orders of the then EIC. He had also issued an instruction to prepare a DPR based on this survey in the relevant file.
