Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) has been granted a three-year extension until 2026 by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) for its internal research and development (R&D) division. Tata Power Delhi Distribution is a collaboration between Tata Power and the government of NCT of Delhi. DSIR is a part of the Ministry of Science and Technology under the Government of India.

Tata Power-DDL has been informed about the extension of recognition for its smart grid laboratory as the 'in-house research and development (R&D) unit' for the subsequent three years by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).

The renewal of acknowledgment as an R&D unit has been granted for a duration of three years, extending until the conclusion of March 2026.

As stated in the company's announcement, "The acknowledgment from DSIR allows the distribution company (DISCOM) to be exempted from customs duties, if applicable, when acquiring or importing equipment, instruments, spare parts, or consumables that are intended for activities related to research and development."

Positioned in sector-15 in Rohini, Delhi, the smart grid laboratory was initially recognised as an 'in-house R&D unit' in the year 2021, following a thorough evaluation process that assessed various aspects, including novel processes and products, partnerships, infrastructure associated with research and development, equipment costs, as well as applied and granted patents. Tata Power-DDL, a power distribution company (DISCOM), is responsible for supplying electricity in North Delhi and caters to a population of 7 million individuals.
