Residents suffer due to lack of road in layout

Residents residing in three localities along the Inner Ring Road (IRR) stretch in South Nagpur have been eagerly awaiting the construction of an internal road for the past 17 years. However, allegations have surfaced that the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has been neglecting this crucial infrastructure development, purportedly to accommodate certain encroachers. Additionally, the civic agency has reportedly failed to comply with the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court's directive, issued four years ago, which called for the removal of these encroachments.

This issue first came to light on September 1, 2022, when reports highlighted encroachments on the land designated for the road's construction. Recently, sources visiting the area observed new encroachments, with two shopkeepers occupying a portion of the road.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, concerned citizens revealed, "A small segment of the road was indeed constructed from Bhagwan Nagar Road, extending approximately 50 meters parallel to the IRR, from Omkar Nagar Square up to the final lane of Kawrapeth. However, the original plan was for this road to connect to all internal roads of Shukla Nagar and culminate at the entrance of Dwarkapuri." They went on to emphasize that motorists often resort to taking the wrong side from Omkar Nagar Square to access Shukla Nagar and Dwarkapuri, resulting in accidents. As a solution, they urged for a joint team comprising NIT and traffic police to maintain round-the-clock vigilance between Shatabdi Square and Omkar Nagar Square, stating that the construction of this road would significantly enhance the safety and convenience of Shukla Nagar and Dwarkapuri residents.
