NMMC to expand and concrete Ghansoli Node roads

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is set to embark on the widening and concretisation of undeveloped roads in the Ghansoli node after the monsoon, marking the first time such efforts have been made since 2016, when the node was officially transferred from CIDCO to the NMMC.

In the initial phase of the road development project, the engineering department has outlined plans to expand the road that links Ghansoli railway station to Koparkhairane node. It is estimated that approximately 45 feet of road will undergo widening and concrete paving, with an anticipated cost of nearly Rs 80 million. The implementation of this large-scale project will commence after the monsoon season.

This will be the first occasion, subsequent to the handover from CIDCO, when the NMMC is focusing on improving the connectivity of the internal area by widening roads that have long been narrow and in a state of disrepair. These neglected routes were not addressed because the adjacent plots remained vacant and unoccupied.

CIDCO has recently issued tenders for the construction of high-rise buildings on these plots, thus opening the door for much-needed development work on this stretch. Bids have been solicited for various aspects of the project, including the felling of trees with girth sizes ranging from 30 cm to 90 cm, clearing grass along a 50-meter stretch, excavation and laying of concrete roads, installation of traffic signage boards, and the construction of footpaths.

Similar efforts will be undertaken to improve connectivity on other internal roads within the node. The existing roads are excessively narrow, leading to traffic congestion and bottlenecks. The road widening initiative aims to transform these roads into six-lane thoroughfares, making access to Ghansoli much more convenient.
