Cabinet approves India-Armenia MoU on digital cooperation

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was between the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology of the Republic of India and the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia. The purpose of the MoU was to cooperate in the field of sharing successful Digital Solutions implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation.

The MoU aimed to promote closer cooperation and the exchange of experiences and digital technologies-based solutions (such as INDIA STACK) in the implementation of digital transformational initiatives in both countries. It was envisioned that this MoU would lead to improved collaboration, resulting in employment opportunities in the IT sector.

It was decided that the MoU would come into effect from the date of the Parties' signature and remain in force for a period of 3 years.

Both Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) bilateral cooperation in the field of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) would be enhanced. The activities outlined in this MoU would be funded through their respective administrations' regular operating allocations.

MeitY had been collaborating with several countries and multilateral agencies to foster bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the ICT domain. Over time, MeitY had entered into MoUs/MoCs/Agreements with counterpart organsations/agencies from various countries to promote cooperation and the exchange of information in the ICT domain. This was in alignment with the various initiatives undertaken by the Government of India, such as Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India, etc., with the aim of transforming the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. In this evolving paradigm, there was an imminent need to explore business opportunities, share best practices, and attract investments in the digital sector with the objective of enhancing mutual cooperation.
