Central Railways installs 3652 face recognition cameras in 117 stations
2023-09-28
The Central Railways have announced their intention to implement a video surveillance system comprising 3652 CCTV cameras, funded by the Nirbhaya fund, at stations falling within the A1, A, B, and C categories. The responsibility for the installation lies with RailTel, as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been previously executed between RailTel and the Railway Board. These CCTV cameras will boast features such as a face recognition system, video analytics, and a video management system. The installation of this CCTV system will cover 117 stations within the Central Railway network. Furthermore, an additional 2470 CCTV cameras will be deployed at the 247 stations classified under the D&E category.
According to information provided by Central Railways, face recognition cameras are set to be introduced at Central Railway stations in the near future. These cameras will serve the dual purpose of identifying wanted individuals and managing crowded areas.
Central Railway is planning to deploy 4K cameras integrated with a face recognition system at 117 central railway stations nationwide. These stations will encompass all Mumbai Division stations, except for those that have already been equipped with integrated security systems (ISS).
Among the central railway stations earmarked for inclusion in this project are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Kurla, Thane, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, and Kalyan.
