92% Broad Gauge Routes Electrified

As the December 2023 deadline approaches for achieving 100 percent electrification of the 07414 Broad Gauge network, the Indian Railways has made substantial progress, with more than 92 percent of the work completed thus far. The Broad Gauge network, covering a total of 65,141 route kilometers, has witnessed electrification across 59,818 kilometers as of September 1st, marking a commendable achievement. Additionally, ongoing efforts are targeting the electrification of approximately 5,500 additional route kilometers.

According to documents reviewed by News18, the Ministry set an ambitious target of electrifying nearly 24 route kilometers per day during the current financial year. By the end of August, it was anticipated that approximately 3,650 kilometers would have been electrified. However, the actual progress has fallen short of this goal, with only 1,006 route kilometers electrified, averaging a little over 6.5 route kilometers per day.

This development underscores the Railway Ministry's determination to meet the electrification deadline, albeit with some challenges in meeting the ambitious daily electrification targets. As the clock continues to tick towards the December 2023 milestone, the Indian Railways remains committed to achieving the goal of comprehensive electrification within the specified timeline.
