Delhi LG drives integrated metro station transformation

The PMU, comprising representatives from key entities such as DDA, PWD, DMRC, MCD, and Traffic Police, aims to address the limitations observed in the execution of well-researched MMI plans. These plans, initially devised for Metro Stations, will now be extended to the surrounding areas, transforming these stations into vital public transport hubs across different parts of Delhi.
The proposed model encompasses interconnected street networks, designed streets, signalised and grade-separated street crossings, efficient interchange locations, and parking facilities for cycles, buses, auto rickshaws, and private cars. Other features include on-street parking, public restrooms, adequate lighting, designated hawker zones, signage, street maps, and enhanced public transport services, all contributing to last-mile connectivity. Notably, MMI plans for stations like Tis Hazari, Rithala, and Seelampur have already received approval.
Earlier this year, UTTIPEC sanctioned MMI plans for Shadipur, Mayur Vihar, and Peeragarhi metro stations. These plans, collaboratively developed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and agencies like PWD, DTC, MCD, and Traffic Police, were subsequently approved by UTTIPEC. During the UTTIPEC meeting, the Delhi LG expressed serious concern about the existing coordination challenges and directed the establishment of the PMU under the supervision of a senior officer, addressing the need for a more integrated approach to urban transportation planning.
