Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (JSPL) has emerged as the solitary bidder yet again, vying for the supply of 16,600 metric tons (MT) of head-hardened rails intended for Mumbai Metro's lines 4, 4A, 5, and 9. This development occurred as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) recently unveiled the technical bids for packages CA-202 and CA-203.
These specialized rail tracks are slated to be of the 60E1 - 1080 grade, conforming to the Indian Railway Specification T-12-2009. They will undergo a unique heat treatment process to enhance strength, reduce residual stress, prolong track lifespan, and minimize maintenance requirements.
In August 2023, MMRDA initiated a re-invitation for bids on both contract packages, providing bidders with a 365-day timeframe for submissions. Package CA-202 represents a re-tender of CA-150, featuring an estimated value of Rs. 78.09 crore, while CA-203 serves as a re-tender of CA-159, with the specific cost estimate not disclosed at this time.
