India is the second-largest ceramic tiles producer in the world, accounting for 7 per cent of global production. Increasing housing demand accounts for 70 per cent of the total tile demand in the country. Rising domestic consumption and exports will drive the ceramics industry, with major export markets being the Middle East and Europe; in fact, 20 per cent of the total ceramics export is shipped to Saudi Arabia. Initiatives like Make in India, Housing for All, Swachh Bharat and the Smart Cities Mission are expected to generate volume-driven growth, resulting in economies of scale.
