Delhi HC orders strict enforcement of slow-moving vehicle on expressway

The Delhi High Court has mandated the traffic department to strictly enforce the prohibition on slow-moving vehicles' movement on expressways in the national capital. The court emphasised that despite clear provisions, there was a gap in their execution. Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula directed the authorities to diligently monitor the situation and take corrective actions whenever deviations from the prescribed norms are observed.

The court ordered, "Respondent No 3 (Delhi Traffic Department) is directed to ensure rigorous enforcement of existing prohibitions discussed above concerning the movement of slow-moving vehicles on expressways, especially within the territorial confines of the NCT of Delhi. Regular monitoring and prompt corrective actions should be taken where deviations from the prescribed norms are observed." The division bench clarified that the issue primarily pertains to enforcement and adherence rather than the absence of regulations.

However, the court declined to issue any directives regarding the demarcation of specific lanes for slow-moving vehicles on expressways.
