Mundra Port achieves historic milestone by handling 16.1 MMT of cargo

According to the official statement, Mundra Port experienced significant year-on-year growth, with a 10% increase in container handling and a 14% rise in liquids and gas volumes. In addition, the port set a new record by handling 4.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers within 203 days, surpassing the previous year's accomplishment achieved in 225 days.
The port diversified its cargo portfolio by incorporating new types of cargo, such as Hydrolysis Pi Gas (HPG), further enhancing its capabilities. On a year-to-date basis, Mundra Port accommodated over 2,480 ships and serviced more than 11,500 rakes.
Looking ahead, Mundra Port aims to reach a significant milestone of 200 MMT in cargo volumes during the FY25 period. The port's ability to maintain deep draft positions it as a hub capable of handling large vessels. Notably, in July 2023, Mundra Port successfully berthed one of the largest ships ever, the MV MSC Hamburg, measuring 399 meters in length and 54 meters in width, with a carrying capacity of 15,908 TEUs and a reported draught of 12 meters.
Additionally, the port's connectivity is bolstered by major rail lines and inland container depots, all of which are now equipped to handle double-stack container trains, according to the official statement.?
