Kanpur Metro embraces advanced automation for efficient Commutes

The Kanpur Metro's priority stretch, running from IIT to Motijheel, has initiated operations in Automatic Train Operation (ATO) mode for enhanced safety and efficiency. Previously operating in Automatic Train Protection (ATP) mode, the ATO system automates most train operations, including motoring, braking, and platform duties, minimizing human intervention and errors. Only door closing remains the operator's responsibility to ensure passenger safety. This advanced automation, categorized as GoA-3, eliminates the need for a driver, with human operators overseeing the system from command centres if necessary. The implementation of Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) and Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) systems enables seamless autonomous operation. The Kanpur Metro's ATO mode signifies a significant step towards a safer, more efficient public transportation system, showcasing the city's commitment to progress and sustainability.
