Incomplete Bangalore-Mysore 10-Lane Expressway sparks motorist woes

The construction of the new Bangalore-Mysore 10-lane expressway highway, characterized by considerable noise, remains incomplete, and the responsible contractor has abandoned the project. The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi at a cost of thousands of crore of rupees, includes six lanes for vehicles and four lanes for service roads. However, the work on the service roads remains unfinished.

Construction has come to a halt in various sections, causing significant inconvenience for motorists using the service roads. Consequently, accidents on these roads have surged. Additionally, the DBL company, awarded the contract, has left critical elements such as overpasses, underpasses, and skywalks unfinished, fuelling local anger.

The incomplete state of the 10-lane expressway highway has posed challenges for motorists. The service roads become impassable during rains, forcing vehicles to rely on them despite the hefty toll charges on the main highway. Despite leasing land from numerous farmers during construction, the tools stored on the land were removed after the work concluded, leaving the landowners unpaid.

Farmers have filed complaints with the District Collector, Dr Kumar, who, in response, has urged the National Highways Authority to expedite the completion of the project. As a consequence of the ongoing delays in completing the service roads of the 10-lane expressway highway, motorists continue to face hardships.
