InterGlobe and Archer venture plan electric air taxis for India by 2026
2023-11-13
InterGlobe Enterprises, the supporter of India's leading airline, IndiGo, and Archer Aviation, a U.S.-based company (ACHR.N), announced day that they would initiate an all-electric air taxi service in India by 2026. The companies stated that the service would be "cost-competitive" compared to on-road services.
The collaboration, with the assumption of obtaining regulatory clearances, intends to seize the growing demand for transportation solutions in India, the world's most populous country. India is grappling with severe ground travel congestion and pollution in its major cities.
Archer Aviation, endorsed by entities like Chrysler-parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI), Boeing (BA.N), and United Airlines (UAL.O), specialises in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, considered the future of urban air mobility.
The 'Midnight' e-aircraft designed by Archer Aviation can accommodate four passengers and a pilot, covering distances of up to 100 miles (approximately 161 kilometers). The service plans to commence operations with 200 aircraft, starting in Delhi (the national capital), Mumbai (the financial capital), and Bengaluru (known as India's Silicon Valley), provided it receives regulatory approval.
