Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Railway gets inaugurated
Funded by the Asian Development Bank and constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), China Railway Group, and Bangladesh's Max Group, the project was inaugurated in the presence of Bangladesh's Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, and China's Ambassador to Dhaka, Yao Wen.
The new railway line is set to significantly reduce the travel time between the port of Chittagong and Cox's Bazar, slashing it from six hours to two. Prime Minister Hasina expressed satisfaction, stating that the longstanding demand for the line had finally been met.
Chen Yongyi, a project manager with CCECC, highlighted to Xinhua news agency that the railway would integrate into the India-Bangladesh-Myanmar-China economic corridor. Ke Changliang, chairman of CCECC's Bangladeshi arm, emphasised that this project marked the first successful collaboration between Chinese and Bangladeshi enterprises, illustrating the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits inherent in the Belt and Road Initiative.
