India's domestic air traffic soars to record highs

Domestic air traffic in India achieved a remarkable milestone, with airlines transporting 456,910 passengers, marking two consecutive days of record-breaking numbers. Official data revealed that on the preceding day, the air traffic figures also reached a new peak of 456,748 passengers.

In a statement, the civil aviation ministry reflected on the post-Covid resurgence of India's domestic aviation, describing it as not only overwhelming but also inspiring. The ministry attributed this success to a positive attitude, progressive policies, and a profound trust among passengers, emphasising that each flight contributes to reaching new heights every day.

The statistics November 19, included 456,910 domestic air passengers and 5,958 flight movements, a significant increase compared to the 393,391 passengers and 5,506 flight movements recorded on the same date last year.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed confidence in India's aviation potential, stating that the country is on track to become the world's largest aviation market. Celebrating the consecutive days of historic numbers, he highlighted the collective achievement of the Indian people and their unwavering enthusiasm.

This achievement also marked the highest post-Covid air traffic for two consecutive days, showcasing India's resilience in the face of challenges. The country stands out as one of the fastest-growing civil aviation markets globally, with domestic air passenger traffic witnessing an annual growth rate of nearly 11%, reaching 12.6 million in October.

Simultaneously, the Mumbai International Airport (CSMIA) reported a substantial growth in passenger traffic for October, exceeding 4.25 million, an 18% increase compared to the same period last year. The release from CSMIA highlighted a robust 20% growth in international passengers, with over 1.14 million travellers compared to 0.94 million in the corresponding period the previous year.
