Longest city flyover planned from Kuloor to Baikampady

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is in the planning stages for the construction of a 3km-long six-lane flyover from Kuloor to Baikampady within the city. In response, the district administration has initiated the preliminary procedures. If this project materializes, it will stand as the longest flyover within the city's limits.

Addressing the traffic congestion issue on the NH-66 stretch, the central government has approved the proposal for constructing a flyover, and the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has instructed NHAI to formulate a detailed project report (DPR) for the flyover. Deputy Commissioner Mulllai Muhilan MP has instructed officials to collaborate with NHAI in preparing the DPR for the project.

During a recent Kaigarika Spandana and District Level Single Window System Committee meeting, the DC disclosed NHAI's plan for a dedicated flyover from Kuloor to Baikampady. He emphasised expediting approvals to initiate the project promptly. Industry association representatives at the meeting raised concerns about traffic issues on NH-66, affecting both industrial operations and the smooth flow of passenger vehicles from the Baikampady industrial area junction to Kuloor.

Acknowledging these challenges, the DC affirmed that constructing a flyover between these pivotal points would enhance traffic flow on the highway. He pledged to instruct NHAI officials to accelerate the approval process and commence the project swiftly. Having personally assessed the traffic snarls, he assured that necessary measures would be taken to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Furthermore, the DC directed officials to clear all encroachments in industrial areas and ensure essential infrastructure, including underground drainage and ample water supply, in the Baikampady industrial zone. He urged the identification of suitable land through the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) for establishing new industries in the district.
