Adani Group Plans Navi Dharavi for ineligible residents

Dharavi, located in Mumbai, India, stands as one of Asia's largest slums, as seen on May 5, 2023. The community receives municipal water for a limited time each morning from external spigots.
DRPPL emphasised that the tenements designated for eligible residents will be 17% larger than those in other slum redevelopment projects in Mumbai. Since 2018, eligible slum dwellers have been entitled to tenements measuring 300 square feet. These tenements will include integrated kitchens and toilets, while the residential complexes will feature community halls, recreational areas, public gardens, dispensaries, and daycare centers for children.
The company also stated that ineligible residents will be accommodated in 'Navi Dharavis' under the state government's proposed affordable rental housing policy. However, specific details about the location of these new colonies were not provided, with DRPPL mentioning that it would be determined based on land availability. These colonies are promised to have facilities equivalent to the redeveloped Dharavi, including economic opportunities, forward-looking education, vocational training, and advanced healthcare facilities, according to the company.
