Chennai Metro launches flyover demolition for UG station in Phase II

As part of the Phase II project, the Chennai Metro Rail has initiated the dismantling of a section of the flyover located at the junction of Royapettah High Road and Dr Radhakrishnan Salai. This demolition is a crucial step in creating space for the construction of the Dr Radhakrishnan Salai underground station, a key component of corridor 3 (Madhavaram to SIPCOT via Mylapore) within the extensive 116 km project.

The underground station is projected to have a depth ranging from 15 to 18 meters and will be equipped with two entry/exit points to facilitate commuter access. While the demolition of the flyover is expected to be completed within one or two months, traffic diversions will remain in place until the construction of the station is finished?a process estimated to take approximately three years. Subsequently, the reconstruction of the flyover will commence, and the entire project is being executed with stringent precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all involved parties.
