MP and Rajasthan CMs Unite for Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project Resolution

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav arrived in Jaipur to meet with his Rajasthan counterpart, Bhajanlal Sharma, to discuss the long-standing Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project. Both state leaders convened a joint press conference, affirming their commitment to resolving drinking and irrigation water issues for the people.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma stated, ""We will fulfill the promise made under the leadership of the prime minister to the people very soon. Some key issues will be addressed, and we are dedicated to solving the water problems faced by the people in 13 districts.""

He highlighted that the decision of both governments would provide drinking water to the people in 13 districts and irrigate 2.80 lakh hectares of land. Chief Minister Yadav expressed optimism about signing an MoU for the benefit of the people, anticipating significant advantages in tourism, industries, educational institutes, and the irrigation belt.

Yadav specified that the project would particularly benefit areas in Madhya Pradesh, including Bhind, Morena, Gwalior, Indore, Ujjain, and Dewas, with the construction of seven dams. He acknowledged pending issues and ongoing bureaucratic-level talks, assuring a decision by the evening.

Upon arriving at Jaipur Airport, Yadav highlighted the focus on water distribution of the Parvati, Chambai, and Kali Sindh rivers, emphasizing the positive impact on both states and numerous farmers. He anticipated transformative changes in the lives of lakhs of farmers and the creation of development opportunities in tourism, industries, and other sectors.

The Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), announced in the 2017-18 state budget by the BJP government, aims to address drinking and irrigation water challenges in 13 districts of eastern Rajasthan. The erstwhile Congress government, led by former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, had sought national importance status for ERCP.

Yadav expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in addressing development issues at the state level
