DMC extends property geotagging deadline
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), on January 30, extended the deadline for commercial and residential properties in the Capital to be geo-tagged by their owners before 29 February 2024. Several property tax payers, on January 28, had said that technical glitches have prevented them from submitting their details with the civic body. If taxpayers fail to geotag their property, they cannot avail the rebate on lumpsum payment of tax by 30 June 2024 in the next financial year (2024-2025).The official MCD tweet said, “It has come to the notice of the department that a large number of taxpayers using iPhone (iOS version) due to some technical glitches or due to some other reasons have not been able to geotag their properties by the due date. This issue is being handled on priority and will soon be resolved. However, in view of the difficulties faced it has been decided to extend the last date for geo-tagging properties by taxpayers, under MCD jurisdiction, till 29 February 2024. All property owners or occupiers who have not geo-tagged their properties so far are requested to geo-tag their property by the due date i.e., February 2024.”
Geotagging of properties involves pinpointing or linking each property’s location with specific latitude-longitude coordinates on a geographic information system (GIS) map, which then links the current location to a unique property identification code.
