Nitin Gadkari approves Rs 7.18 bn for NH-59 widening in Odisha

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, disclosed that an amount of Rs 7.18 billion had been approved for the expansion and reinforcement of the Daringbadi Ghat section on National Highway 59 in Odisha, covering Kandhamal and Ganjam districts.

He mentioned that the project, which was approved as part of the annual plan for 2023-24, encompasses a total distance of 26.96 km.

According to the minister, the Daringbadi Ghat segment faces challenges at present due to a narrow carriageway and suboptimal geometrics, leading long-route vehicles from western Odisha to detour National Highway 59.

Highlighting its significance as a prominent tourist destination, especially during winter, Gadkari emphasised that improving this stretch would raise highway standards, enhance safety, and ensure all-weather connectivity along National Highway 59.
