BMRCL contracts purple line extension

The contract worth Rs 480.62 million to extend the purple line of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) further from the Whitefield (Kadugodi) metro station has been awarded to M Venkata Rao Infra Projects. It was reported that the extension, spanning only 588 meters and without any new stations, aims to enhance train operations by providing a train reversal crossover-track facility. Additionally, the contract includes the construction of a 28-metre extension of the under-construction Whitefield Depot's third line. ITD Cementation India Limited was responsible for building both this extension and Reach 1B's mainline.

The project was initially put out for bids in October of the previous year, with an estimated cost of Rs 420.30 million and an 18-month completion deadline. As a result of the awarded contract, the extension of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project's Reach 1B will extend the Purple Line across the Indian Railways' Bengaluru ? Chennai line, reaching up to Belathur Colony on Whitefield ? Hoskote Road.

Currently, trains at the Whitefield (Kadugodi) station utilise only one platform to serve passengers, as the line terminates 14 metres north of the station. This requires incoming trains to reduce speed to a designated slower pace. With the implementation of the extension, the corporation aims to facilitate high-frequency train operations smoothly.
