The Mughal Road, closed for more than four months because of heavy snowfall, is expected to reopen for one-way traffic the following month, allowing passage from Shopian to Poonch.
Efforts were underway to clear the historic road, with expectations that it would be open by the end of the month. Abdul Rahman, a mechanical engineer for Anantnag division, stated that snow clearance operations were progressing well, anticipating clearing till Peer Ki Gali by the following day. He added that the reopening date would be determined by the District Administration Shopian, with a single track expected to be operational soon.
After heavy snowfall on December 16, the Mughal Road had been shut down due to snow accumulation at various points along the highway.
This 90-kilometer stretch from Bufliyaz in Poonch to Heerpora in Shopian serves as an alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and routinely closes in winter due to snow buildup.
