Ahasolar Wins BPCL Solar Contract

In a significant move towards embracing renewable energy, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has awarded a ?5.1 million (~$61,168) contract to Ahasolar to power three of its refineries through solar energy. The ten-month contract aims to establish solar power facilities at Mumbai Refinery (8 MW), Bina Refinery (22 MW), and Kochi Refinery (16 MW).

The project, initiated following a tender floated by BPCL in February, mandates Ahasolar to oversee the entire project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning. Ahasolar's responsibilities include ensuring adherence to engineering practices, managing project risks, preparing technical documents, and supervising execution and commissioning activities.

This initiative underscores BPCL's commitment to sustainable energy practices. In August 2022, the company invited bids for a 14 MW solar power project at its Bina Refinery and later issued a tender for consultancy services to set up 6.9 MW of floating solar power projects at its Kochi Refinery.

BPCL's recent endeavors also extend to green hydrogen production, with plans to establish a hydrogen plant and refueling station at the Cochin International Airport in Kochi, Kerala. These initiatives signify BPCL's proactive approach towards reducing its carbon footprint and promoting clean energy solutions.

By harnessing solar power across its refineries, BPCL aims to contribute towards India's renewable energy goals while ensuring sustainable operations in the long run.
