10,200 saplings to be planted in Kovai, Coimbatore

As part of the Green Tamil Nadu Mission project, CCMC Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran inaugurated the campaign on Monday near the Kurichi Housing Unit in the South Zone. It was disclosed that a total of 10,200 tree saplings are slated for planting. Various endeavors are underway to safeguard the environment and natural resources within the city boundaries.
In the initial stage, a sum of 10,123 trees, including varieties such as Vembu, Poovarasan, Pungan, and Nawal trees, will be planted and maintained at approximately 264 locations, comprising municipal parks, OSR lands, banks of ponds, lakes, and other water bodies spread across all 100 wards in the city.
Previously, the Commissioner examined the underground drainage works executed by the TWAD Board in the east zone of the city. The assessment also involved a review of the cleaning activities concerning UGD machine holes, conducted by sanitary workers near the district collector's office.
Additionally, the Commissioner inspected the ongoing construction of stormwater drains near the ESI hospital on Kamarajar Road. He directed the officials to expedite the progress and ensure the project's completion before the onset of the monsoon season. This project, valued at Rs 40.5 million and operating under the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme, spans 2.2 kilometres.
Assistant Commissioner (IC) Ilangovan, Assistant Executive Engineer Kanagaraj, Zonal Health Officer Andiappan, Assistant Engineer Sabariraj, and other corporation officers were in attendance during the inspections.
