Government begins land acquisition for Noida Airport Phase 2

The Indian government has commenced the process of acquiring land valued at over Rs 4,000 crore for the second phase of the Noida International Airport. The expansion aims to accommodate increasing air traffic and improve connectivity. The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a notification for the land acquisition under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. Approximately 1,365 hectares will be acquired for this phase, enhancing the airport?s capacity and infrastructure.

The Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, is set to become a major aviation hub. The first phase, currently under construction, is expected to be completed by 2024, providing an initial capacity of 12 million passengers annually. The second phase will significantly boost this capacity.

The project is being developed by Zurich Airport International AG, which won the contract in 2019. The entire project is projected to cost around Rs 29,560 crore, with the first phase requiring Rs 5,730 crore. The airport will have state-of-the-art facilities, making it a key player in the regional and international aviation sectors.

The development is anticipated to spur economic growth, create employment opportunities, and attract investments in the region. With enhanced connectivity, the airport will also reduce the congestion at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. This ambitious project underscores the government?s commitment to infrastructure development and improving transportation networks across the country.
