DYFI Campaigns for Road and Sewer Repairs in Madurai
T Selva, district secretary of DYFI, emphasized the poor condition of the city's roads. "Apart from major roads, many roads in residential areas are severely damaged due to ongoing underground drainage and drinking water works. Even after the completion of works, many roads have not been properly laid. During the campaign, we will also survey the number of such roads that need attention," Selva stated.
The campaign aims to collect at least 10,000 signatures from residents, which will be submitted as part of a petition to Mayor Indrani Ponvasanth and Corporation Commissioner C Dinesh Kumar on Wednesday.
Vel Deva, a DYFI member, highlighted that the issues extend beyond road damage. "All 63 core wards in the city face problems of overflowing sewage from manholes or other sewer issues. The corporation must find a permanent solution to this problem. Many residents have also raised concerns about defunct LED lights," he said.
The DYFI's campaign underscores the pressing need for comprehensive infrastructure repairs in Madurai, aiming to ensure safer and more livable conditions before the arrival of the monsoon.
