SC Seeks Data on Haryana's Affordable Housing Projects in 10 Years
The court's order comes amid concerns about the execution and effectiveness of affordable housing schemes in Haryana. The bench, headed by Justice A. K. Sikri, emphasised the need for comprehensive data to evaluate the progress and impact of these projects. This information will help assess whether the state's efforts align with the national goal of providing affordable housing for all.
The Haryana government has been asked to furnish records of all affordable housing projects sanctioned, along with details on the number of units approved, their current status, and the timelines for completion. Additionally, the court has sought data on the compliance of these projects with the regulatory guidelines and standards set by the state and central governments.
This move is part of a broader judicial scrutiny of housing policies across India, focusing on the implementation of schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The Supreme Court's intervention aims to address the challenges faced by the affordable housing sector, including delays, quality issues, and the misallocation of resources.
Affordable housing is a critical component of India's urban development strategy, with significant social and economic implications. Ensuring that these projects are executed effectively is essential for meeting the housing needs of the economically weaker sections and promoting inclusive growth.
The court's order has put pressure on the Haryana government to provide a transparent and accurate account of its affordable housing initiatives. This information will be crucial for formulating future policies and ensuring that the benefits of housing schemes reach the intended beneficiaries.
The Supreme Court's proactive stance is expected to drive improvements in the planning and execution of affordable housing projects, ultimately contributing to the realization of the goal of housing for all in India.
