Cabinet Clears IAF Engines and Semiconductor Plant

The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the procurement of 240 AL-31FP aero-engines for the Indian Air Force's Su-30 MKI aircraft. The engines, sourced from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at an estimated cost of Rs 260 billion, will begin delivery in one year and be completed over eight years. With over 54% indigenous content, these engines will be produced at HAL's Koraput division, enhancing the IAF's operational capabilities.

Additionally, the Union Cabinet has sanctioned the establishment of a semiconductor unit by Kaynes Semicon Pvt Ltd in Sanand, Gujarat. The Rs 33 billion facility will produce 60 lakh chips daily, supporting diverse sectors such as automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and telecom.
