New South Bengaluru Airport May Impact BBMP's 250 m Sky Deck Project

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is encountering obstacles in its ambitious plan to construct a 250-metre-tall sky deck at Hemmigepura near Kengeri, as this project could potentially conflict with a proposal for a second airport in south Bengaluru. Initially intended for the Central Business District (CBD), the sky deck project was later abandoned when BBMP realised that obtaining the required approvals from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and defence authorities would be unfeasible.

A senior BBMP official disclosed that the original plan involved identifying a 10-acre site at the New Government Electric Factory (NGEF) near Baiyappanahalli metro station and considering land from Karnataka Soaps and Detergents (KSDL). However, after recognizing the anticipated regulatory challenges in securing permissions at these locations, BBMP officials shifted their focus to Hemmigepura.
