NH-2 road project: HC directs NHIDCL to update court on incomplete work

The Guwahati High Court Kohima Bench has directed the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to report by November 12 on the steps it will take to complete the remaining work on the Kohima-Mao road project along National Highway-2.

The court’s order follows a previous directive in October for NHIDCL to submit details regarding the outcome of two tenders for short-term maintenance and actions to finalize the project, which had been delayed due to a termination of the contract with the previous contractor. The NHIDCL had been tasked with completing the stretch under an agreement signed in 2020, with a revised deadline of May 2024, though as of the last status report, only 74.23% of the work had been completed.

The NHIDCL assured the court that an updated affidavit, outlining specific steps for completing the unfinished portions, would be filed on time. The court has warned that further consequences will follow if the affidavit is not submitted by the deadline.
