CONCOR Launches Double Stack Container Movement

Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has launched double-stack container train services between Delhi’s National Capital Region (NCR) and Varnama, near Baroda, to benefit customers at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) in Mumbai.

On December 21, the first double-stack container train from Khatuwas and Dadri in NCR arrived at CONCOR’s Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminal (GCT) in Varnama, carrying export cargo bound for JNP.

The Varnama terminal will facilitate the conversion of import containers into double-stack trains for Northern India, promoting faster and sustainable movement via the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).

CONCOR’s double-stack container service will improve transit times and help shift cargo from road to rail. It will also reduce carbon emissions due to electrified freight services and enhance supply chain efficiency by providing direct access to JNP and Mundra ports.

The Western DFC, which will link Delhi and Mumbai, is part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) initiative. It will significantly reduce freight transport times, benefiting industrial development in the region.
