BRS Calls for Revival of Raidurg to Shamshabad Metro Corridor

BRS leaders have urged the Telangana government to reinstate the metro rail corridor from Raidurg to Shamshabad, a project originally proposed by the previous BRS administration. They also requested the establishment of a clear deadline for completing Phase II of the metro project, particularly the northern city stretches. Additionally, they suggested implementing a double-decker metro system for the Jubilee Bus Station to Shamirpet corridor.

During a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, BRS MLAs KP Vivekananda and Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, along with former MPs Balka Suman and B Vinod Kumar, criticised the Revanth Reddy government for delaying the metro expansion plans across the city.

Vivekananda remarked, "The previous BRS government had laid out a comprehensive plan for metro expansion under Phase III. However, the Congress government scrapped the metro project from Raidurg to Shamshabad, revising it to erase any traces of former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao's legacy."

The leaders emphasized that the metro extensions to Medchal and Shamirpet should be prioritised under Phase II-A rather than Phase II-B. They further argued that the Raidurg to Shamshabad stretch, which would benefit thousands of IT professionals, must be included in the government's metro plans.

While the foundation for the JBS to Shamirpet elevated corridor has been laid, construction has yet to commence, pending central government assistance. Vinod Kumar suggested constructing a double-decker skyway along Rajiv Rahadari from JBS to Shamirpet to alleviate traffic congestion.
