Cable Car Project for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Gets Green Light

The cable car system will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model or a joint financial collaboration between the central and state governments. Gadkari has instructed V Umashankar, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, to initiate a survey and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to evaluate the project's technical and financial feasibility.
Union Minister Gadkari emphasised the need for an integrated transport system to tackle congestion and pollution in the region. The cable car project will form a part of a comprehensive transport plan, which is expected to include innovative solutions to modernise urban mobility across the MMR.
Transport Minister Sarnaik highlighted the project’s potential to revolutionise transportation in the region. “This initiative will address pressing challenges such as traffic congestion, pollution, and infrastructure gaps, transforming urban mobility in the MMR,” Sarnaik stated. With the DPR in progress, the project is set to be a major step toward sustainable urban transportation and a boost for commuters in the bustling metropolitan region. (FE)
