Bhimber Gali Tunnel Work Begins with Inaugural Blast

The construction of the 1.1 km Bhimber Gali Tunnel along National Highway 144A marked a major milestone with the inaugural blast today. This tunnel is a crucial part of the 16.1 km highway project connecting Kalali (Rajouri) to Bhataduria (Poonch), designed to serve as an alternate route for Army movements and civilian commuters in the region’s challenging terrain.

Brig Neeraj Madan, Chief Engineer of Project Sampark, and AM Prasad, Regional Officer, Jammu, MoRTH, led the inaugural blast ceremony, attended by officials from the Civil Administration. A puja ceremony was performed before the blast.

The tunnel will reduce the highway length by 10.8 km, significantly improving connectivity between strategic locations. This initiative is part of BRO’s larger infrastructure push, following the breakthrough of the 700-meter Naushera Tunnel on January 29, 2024.

Brig Madan reaffirmed BRO’s commitment to strengthening connectivity and defence infrastructure in remote areas. Once completed, the Bhimber Gali Tunnel will not only enhance military mobility but also boost economic activity and regional accessibility. The Border Roads Organisation remains dedicated to upgrading strategic road networks across India's toughest terrains.
