New 568-Km Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway Route Gets Approval
The Indian government has approved the construction of the 568 km long, six-lane greenfield Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway. This infrastructure project is estimated to cost Rs 386.45 billion, with Bihar contributing approximately Rs 275.52 billion.
The expressway will traverse 313 villages across 39 blocks in eight districts of Bihar, namely West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj. Out of the total stretch, nearly 417 km will pass through Bihar, significantly enhancing regional connectivity and reducing travel time.
As part of the project, multiple bridges will be constructed over key rivers, including the Gandak, Bagmati, and Kosi. These structures are expected to strengthen transportation links, facilitating smoother movement of goods and people. The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway is set to transform Bihar’s infrastructure, boosting economic activity and fostering regional development by improving access to markets and trade routes.
