President Inaugurates National Conference on ‘Environment – 2025’

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the National Conference on ‘Environment – 2025’ in New Delhi, emphasising the need for continuous awareness and collective participation in environmental protection. She highlighted that sustainability should be a daily commitment, urging individuals to adopt an environmentally conscious lifestyle to ensure a cleaner future for coming generations.

Addressing the role of future generations in environmental transition, the President underscored the moral responsibility of providing them with clean air, water, and natural surroundings. She stressed that environmental concerns extend beyond scientific and economic dimensions to ethical considerations, making it essential to balance modern development with ecological preservation.

The President noted that India’s development philosophy is rooted in nourishment over exploitation and protection over elimination. She acknowledged India’s achievements in fulfilling its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under international agreements and expressed confidence in the country’s ability to lead global sustainability efforts.

Recognising the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) role in environmental governance, she commended its contributions to climate justice through landmark decisions impacting public health and ecological conservation. She urged institutions and citizens to work together toward a greener future, reinforcing India’s commitment to global environmental leadership.

The National Conference on ‘Environment – 2025’, organised by the NGT, serves as a platform for key stakeholders to discuss environmental challenges, share best practices, and develop action plans for sustainable environmental management. The President expressed confidence that India’s green initiatives will set an example for the world and contribute to making the nation a developed and environmentally thriving country by 2047.
