MSC Türkiye Docks at Vizhinjam, Marking Major Milestone

MSC Türkiye, one of the world's largest container ships, has docked at the Vizhinjam International Seaport (VIJ) in Kerala. The ship is operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company and is 400 metres in length, 61.3 metres in width, and has a depth of 33.5 metres. It has the capacity to carry 24,346 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Additionally, it is a green container ship, which means it uses cleaner fuels such as LNG and biofuels, which minimise its carbon footprint per container transported.

The docking of the ship is seen as a significant milestone for Adani Ports, which owns and operates VIJ. Recently Adani Port revealed that VIJ handles over 100,000 TEUs and 41.5 million metric tonnes of cargo, making it a high-performing and important port. The arrival of MSC Türkiye further showcases the port’s ability to receive and manage large-scale shipping operations. In fact, Adani Ports’ share prices have increased by 0.32 per cent over the last trading session; over the past five years, the stock has grown by 350.6 per cent.
