Centre Approves Rs 11.69 Bn MMTS Expansion in Hyderabad

The central government has sanctioned the expansion of Hyderabad’s Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) with a budgetary outlay of Rs 11.69 billion. This significant move aims to bolster suburban rail connectivity throughout the city.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the project, which entails the construction of six new railway lines spanning 102.4 kilometres, along with the modernisation of existing infrastructure.

The South Central Railway will be responsible for implementing the works, which are expected to greatly enhance the efficiency and reach of urban transit across Hyderabad.

Expansion Highlights: Quadrupling of the 12-kilometre Ghatkesar–Moula Ali C-Cabin section.

Doubling of the 1.4-kilometre Falaknuma–Umdanagar and 22-kilometre Sanathnagar–Moula Ali bypass lines.

A new 5-kilometre rail line to link Tellapur and Ramachandrapuram.

Doubling of 14 kilometres along the Medchal–Bollarum corridor.

Electrification of the 15-kilometre Secunderabad–Bollarum stretch.

A 33-kilometre third line to be built between Ghatkesar and Yadadri.

In line with the agreement, the Telangana government is expected to release its pending contribution of Rs 2.79 billion to ensure timely execution of the approved works.

This expansion will not only improve connectivity in Hyderabad’s fast-growing suburbs but also complement the state’s broader transportation goals, in keeping with the national thrust on integrated urban mobility
